New Superintendent/Principal Approved!

April 21, 2021

Dear Latrobe Families,

Last night the Board of Trustees approved Mr. David Scroggins as our new Superintendent/Principal. Dave is excited to join the district and comes to us with a broad range of experience from the Rescue Union School District. Dave began his career with Rescue as a teacher and taught at both Green Valley Elementary School and Pleasant Grove Middle School. Dave also has experience as an administrator serving as an assistant principal and principal at Green Valley and Pleasant Grove before moving into a district level position as Director of Curriculum & Instruction. He is currently the Assistant Superintendent with responsibilities in the areas of Human Resources, Technology and Assessment and Curriculum. We could not have found a more prepared individual for our district.

Dave is well known for his love of sports and coaching. He is an avid skier and was the Buddy Werner Coach of the Year in 2012. More recently Dave was named the California Curriculum and Instruction Administrator of the Year in 2018. Dave is married and has two children. The family lives in Shingle Springs.

Dave is anxious to get started and will be meeting with me and spending time at both schools before the end of the year. His official start date is July 1, 2021 but we will be working together to ensure a smooth transition for him and the staff. I have worked with Dave for over ten years. As administrators in the county, we had many opportunities to serve on different committees and in professional associations. Through that work I got to know him quite well. I told our staff last Friday that I feel Dave is the perfect fit for Latrobe. The staff is excited to begin working with him and I know that they will benefit from his knowledge, experience, enthusiasm, and genuine love for education. Dave is passionate about working with kids and teachers. One of the reasons that Latrobe was so attractive for him is the hands-on opportunities this position offers the administrator. He is ready to get back to having a more personal working relationship with students, staff members and our families.

This is a quote from his current Superintendent, Cheryl Olson. “Mr. David Scroggins is the consummate educator, leader, and person. He changes lives, ensures success, and inspires others to go above and beyond. Students and adults are better people for being blessed to work with him and know him.” I whole-heartedly agree with my colleague. I am sure that you will feel the same way too. I feel confident and excited to turn my position over to Dave and want to thank the EDCOE, our district interview committee and our board for making such a wonderful choice. We are lucky to have Mr. Scroggins joining the Latrobe School District.

Take care,

Natalie Miller
