The Gifted and Talented Education or GATE program is implemented
in the regular classroom and not as an after school activity.
GATE students participate in their regular classroom through projects
and activities planned by their regular classroom teacher. Students
have been notified if they are newly classified as GATE. Just
a quick reminder of how a student qualifies for GATE:
-
STAR Test Scores: this test
is given annually by the state in the spring of each year.
-
Ravens Matrices: this test
is given annually to all new students and all fourth graders.
-
Parent Inventory: given to
all fourth grader’s and new students’ parents to assist us
in their perception of the student’s interests, talents and
work habits.
-
Teacher Inventory: similar
to the parent inventory but based on the school environment.
These four areas are assigned point levels and
the fulfillment of a total point requirement will determine if
a student is designated. For our students, once they are designated
as GATE they retain that designation until they enter high school.
At that time the designation may be reevaluated. |
